ACE Mentor Program, Houston, local affiliate of the national ACE Program is an after‐school mentoring program giving teams of students the opportunity to work closely with architects, construction managers, and engineers. Over the course of a school year, mentors show students how designers and builders think and work while students learn about career opportunities in their respective fields. The objective of this program is to allow students to design a project where they conceptualize, plan and estimate a project, including, plan and project layout or CAD models, summary project schedules, rough order of magnitude estimates, wrapped up with a group presentation as the culmination of the program.
The mission of the ACE Mentor Program is to enlighten and increase the awareness of high school students to career opportunities in architecture, construction and engineering, as well as related areas of the design and construction industries through mentoring. This program also provides scholarship opportunities for students in an inclusive manner reflective of the diverse school population. Currently, ACE Mentor Houston is looking for mentors for the 2013‐2014 school year to begin in late October and conclude in early April. Mentors and students will meet weekly, for two hours after school and work (5‐7pm), at one of five locations to work on their year‐long projects. The school year ends with a competition of project presentations and a scholarship awards program. Being a part of ACE Mentor is a great way to give back to your community and industry.
