LONG BEACH – On March 22, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), recognized over one hundred projects built by merit shop contractors at its annual convention in Long Beach, California.
ABC Greater Houston members were among those who submitted projects to the Excellence in Construction Awards. These projects were among the finest in the Houston area, and several Greater Houston members were among the few selected to receive a national award at the convention.
The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition that honors both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety, and cost.
A panel of industry experts judged the competition rigorously. This year’s panel included professionals from the Building Owners and Manager Association International, the Smithsonian Facilities Construction Division, the Construction Management Association of America, Engineering News-Record, Design-Build Institute of America, Purdue University, and various construction-related firms nationwide.
ABC members are renowned for their dedication to safety and excellence in the construction field, and the awards program demonstrates that commitment. The projects were evaluated by local owners, architects, and engineers on safety, execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, installation, and other considerations.
